Successful Mitigation of Fire & Smoke Damage


Course Objectives


  1. An overview of the dynamics of fire and smoke damage and the related customer service issues involved will be presented. The behavior of smoke and how it affects the built environment will be discussed. The continuing damaging effects of smoke residue when not mitigated quickly will be discussed. Methods required to reduce claim loss settlement costs will be discussed.
  2. The licensee should be able to describe the damage fire and smoke causes in a building and understand the health, safety, and hazard issues involved relevant to the building occupants.
  3. The licensee should be able to explain the necessity for thorough smoke odor removal processes to return the building and contents back to pre-loss condition.
  4. As a result of the information learned in this component, the licensee should be able to improve his/her communication with the policy holder and contractor regarding professional cleaning and restoration methods and procedures. This should result in improved customer service and reduced claim loss settlement costs.
